Face the truth and take action
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty the oppressed, to proclaim the favor of God The Jubilee of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).
As a Christian, what does it really mean to imitate Christ? Faced with various social injustices, what should Christians who imitate Christ do? Charles Finney was a famous evangelist during the Second Great Spiritual Awakening in the United States in the 18th century. He had a huge influence on American history. At each crusade, when people poured out of the aisles to make a decision to accept Christ, he always immediately asked them if they were willing to become abolitionists. For Finney, since he lived in that era, if he did not work hard to end slavery, , is not a serious Christian!
Every day in newspapers, magazines and TV news, we see energy crisis, environmental pollution, poverty, abuse, violence, injustice, war and thousands of other issues. As a serious Christian, what should you do?
Jesus Christ is not of the green camp or the blue camp; He is neither a Republican nor a Democrat. If we read the Bible carefully, we will find that Jesus Christ completely refuses to be labeled as any political ideology. He is above political parties and any interest groups. He calls us to take action that is consistent with God's will and from such completely transcendent action to avoid any unnecessary, unproductive and dangerous disputes and divisions.
Micah 6:8 admonishes us:"O man, the LORD has shown you what is good. What does He require of you? To do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."Jesus also said in Matthew 23:23:"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and celery, but you do not do the weightier things of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. Yes. This is more important for you to do; it is also necessary.”
In this issue, we conducted an in-depth review and report on "Vulnerable Women Groups: Child Prostitution and Domestic Violence", an extremely serious issue that is generally ignored by Chinese Christians. We also invited senior economic expert Professor Wen Yingqian to discuss "Rescuing Poverty, Now" ! 〉An article discusses the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the responsibilities of Christians. I hope you will read it with a prayerful heart and respond with practical actions.
