Real medical treatment, manpower is sometimes poor

"That was thirty years ago. I was doing a kidney biopsy on a child and he was bleeding. He was bleeding and had blood in his urine. I really didn't know how to deal with it. I tried my best and used all known medical methods. I also invited my companions, teachers, and experts for consultation, but no one was able to do anything.

The saddest thing for me is that the child's father is not violent. He appeals softly. Whenever I show up, he always says, "Doctor, my child is still urinating blood." "I couldn't sleep for a whole week, and I was so stressed that I almost collapsed. One afternoon, I just wanted to say that God, you are omnipresent and omnipotent. Now I am facing such great pain, please help me.

After praying, I went for ward rounds and met my subordinate, a resident doctor. He said, "Director Huang, the patient's bleeding in urine has stopped!" ” Once upon a time, my prayers were not answered, and I often complained to my wife. Is prayer useful? Sometimes my family members know that I am a Christian and ask me to pray for their children, but there is no way of knowing whether God listens to my prayers. But the case of the patient with hematuria was the one that impressed me the most. When I walked over, the resident doctor told me that the bleeding in the urine had stopped! I am really grateful to the extreme of my heart. "

The greatest miracle is that you and I are breathing

"I think the biggest miracle God sees when it comes to our bodies is that you and I are breathing. Our bodies are damaged every day, whether it's Satan's attacks or human sins. For example, we inhale Good air and bad food are all caused by human beings. But the miracle of God is that He designed our bodies to repair them anytime and anywhere. This is a miracle of human wisdom! Human hands cannot design a machine with such wonderful properties as the human body.

Some Christians believe that supernatural healing is a miracle. But my father and I both have the same concept. God gives us grace every day, not just when we encounter supernatural healing. For a testimony of supernatural healing to be established, I think unless you are very sure that you were healed through prayer in a place where medical resources are lacking, or in a situation that cannot be solved by medical treatment.

Modern medicine itself is a miracle. God has given mankind wisdom, and through many scientists and doctors who trust God and respect God, they have invented methods to treat diseases. Would you say this is accidental? Or is it God’s blessing? If a drug today could help your child, or yourself, save your life and live a more God-honoring life, why would you run away from it? Why do you think that healing without taking medicine and relying only on prayer is a blessing from God? In fact, I feel that the entire medical system and everything is God’s grace. "

Famous doctors also need to pray, because medical treatments are sometimes exhausted;
Ming Mu also needs to seek medical treatment, because the medical system is a miracle!

After reading the first two true confessions of famous doctors Huang Fuyuan and Huang Yuning, father and son, are you as deeply shocked as the reporter?

▲Cover of Dr. Huang Fuyuan's book: "The Heart of a Doctor".

I heard that I was going to interview a famous pediatrician and a very influential doctor in Taiwan’s media industry. I wonder how many people would be like the reporter. In addition to doing their homework, they also left with the awe and longing to step into the giant white tower. ? However, when we officially walked into the interview location, we found that it was an extremely low-key and simple office. Dr. Huang Fuyuan poured two cups of tea himself and started talking to us in detail. Dr. Huang Xingning also borrowed his father's office to accept our interview.

It turns out that whether it is a long-lasting doctor who has devoted himself to children's medical care for half a century; or when faced with a patient's life-threatening situation, he makes good use of the doctor's mind to find the best treatment method; Professional statements of benefit; all come from the accumulation of unpretentious experience every day. These experiences are by no means something that can be conveyed in just a few strokes. Recently, two doctors have published two books, "The Heart of a Doctor" and "Teaching by Example - The Doctors and Sons of Huang Fuyuan and Huang Yuning" respectively, sharing their expertise in medical treatment. , with many years of life experience.

The story is short but the story is long. Compared with the whole wonderful book, what the magazine report hopes to present is the true appearance of life seen through close interviews. In the actual medical experience, Dr. Huang Fuyuan's enthusiasm for patients and concern for the current medical system; Dr. Huang Jinning's persistence in health education, earnestly enlightening the public not to be limited by wrong ideas; and behind all this, the support of the two The power of human faith finally allowed us to refine the article you see. In this issue, we will start from Dr. Huang Fuyuan’s experience to understand children’s medical care and experience true beliefs.

What you and I see is not the huge white tower, but the sincere love inside the white robe.

▲Dr. Huang Fuyuan was interviewed in a simple office of Mackay Hospital.

It’s so hard to hear a kind word from a doctor!

Dr. Huang Jinning once wrote a story about a child who was seriously ill. The attending physician said that 99% of the child would die. The neurologist even pessimistically said that it should be 99.9%. However, Huang Yingning witnessed with her own eyes that Dr. Huang Fuyuan played the role of comforter at the critical moment, saying to the parents: "Although the cause of the disease cannot be found at present, children have a strong recovery ability. I have encountered many seemingly hopeless patients. Suddenly he gets better. Even if there is only a small chance of survival, we still have to grasp it, maybe he will be cured without medicine, so please don’t lose heart, let’s pray for him together, okay?”

This was Huang Fuyuan's most touching "exemplary teaching" to his son. A month later, the seriously ill child recovered. Although he had some sequelae, he was discharged from the hospital safely. Really, in the hospital, any miracle can happen, as long as you keep that glimmer of hope.

For Huang Xingning, this example encouraged him to give comfort and hope to the patient while stating the facts. But when we interviewed Dr. Huang Fuyuan, he did not use this example to criticize other doctors. He could actually empathize with and understand the feelings of doctors who "dare not say nice things to patients" or "speak more seriously about their conditions." .

"Why is the attitude of doctors in Taiwan now so different from that of doctors Schweitzer and Xie Wei in the past? It is due to the medical environment. If he does not make the condition very bad, but gives the patient a little hope, then if the condition gets worse later, the patient may Just sue him. Nowadays, the chance of a doctor being sued is about five to ten times that before there was no health insurance. Does he dare to say words of comfort and encouragement? So you have to consider the doctor's difficulties.

I comfort patients because God gave me compassion. For a long time, compassion was abundant. But in the following years, when I saw my peers being accused and my colleagues being sued, I felt really sad. So I often ask the pastor, how to act as a good Christian doctor? There is a sentence that comes to my mind, you should be as nimble as a snake and as gentle as a dove. This sentence comforts me and helps me a lot. "

The tension in the doctor-patient relationship not only affects doctors, but also affects patients in turn! How can patients strike a balance between fighting for their own rights and respecting the professionalism of doctors? How can medical institutions provide doctors with adequate support and protection so that they can conduct medical treatment with peace of mind? They are all worthy of our deep thought.

"Prevention is better than cure? Why doesn't the health insurance budget?"

Although what is written in the above subtitle is about the situation in Taiwan, it is worth learning from the world. Taiwan's health insurance is the envy of many countries, but it is only "cheap and generous" in terms of treatment. According to the law, health insurance cannot allocate almost a dime to the prevention of diseases! It sounds strange. Isn’t the purpose of establishing health insurance to protect people’s health? But this is the reality in Taiwan. Health insurance only treats diseases, not prevention. Dr. Huang Fuyuan was very sad when he talked about this.

"Taiwan's current health insurance law stipulates that health insurance cannot pay for disease prevention. For example, influenza vaccines cannot be provided, and vaccines to prevent cervical cancer cannot be provided. In fact, the most cost-effective thing is not treatment, but prevention. , compared with large-scale influenza vaccination, the budget spent on helping people treat influenza is about ten times higher, but money for prevention cannot be provided.

The same goes for child safety. Taiwan has one of the highest child accident mortality rates in the world. How many children die from home accidents, traffic accidents, choking, poisoning, etc. Why? Because our people think this is an accident and is destined by God, the government rarely publicizes it. In fact, this is not an accident, it can be prevented! As long as parents are properly educated, 70% of child accident deaths can be avoided.

If the health insurance law can be adjusted and a budget of 10 to 20 million is allocated every year, as in many other countries, allowing pediatricians to continuously educate the families of sick children on accident prevention, this will not only protect the lives of more children, but also save health insurance funds. . Unfortunately, we just don’t want to do that. "

Confession of faith! How do scientists view miracles?

Christian faith has become the biggest motivation for Dr. Huang Fuyuan to be enthusiastic about medical treatment and inherit medical skills and ethics. However, he also mentioned that his wife was actually much more enthusiastic about preaching the gospel than he was; he even once had doubts about his faith. From disbelief to belief, as a scientist, how did he go through this journey?

"I like to read the Bible, listen to sermons, and read spiritual books. But when it comes to the miracles in the Bible, I used to be very rational, that is, "I don't believe it."

But as I get older, I won’t say I don’t believe it now, I will watch and read more. For example, I recently read a book written by Tadao Yanaihara, president of the University of Tokyo in Japan, which used natural phenomena to explain how Jesus stood in a boat and preached to thousands of people on the shore. As a scientist, I was very happy to read it. But he also wrote something later: Many miracles cannot be explained by science now.

So I adopt the attitude that I believe there are miracles, but I have no way to explain them, nor do I impose explanations. Just like the miracle I saw with my own eyes, a patient's hands really couldn't move. We used scientific methods to prove that he had osteomyelitis; two months later, he actually told me that his hands could move! I couldn't believe it at all. Can I explain? Even if a group of doctors is mobilized, they cannot explain it.

So I believe in miracles. And further, I believe that our being alive is a miracle, and the beating of our hearts is a miracle. It’s just that we are used to it and take it for granted, instead of being grateful. In fact, this is God’s grace. Of course, compared to miracles, I prefer to read what Jesus said, that is, His teachings. "

A doctor saved a hundred people, but without inheritance, he only helped a hundred people. If it is passed down to a hundred descendants and each one saves a hundred people, then ten thousand people have been helped! Dr. Huang Fuyuan not only practices medicine himself and lives out the testimony of his faith, but also invests his knowledge and experience in every student he teaches, benefiting the health of thousands of children. One of his best students was his son Huang Yuning, who decided to change his mind after praying and enter Ma Kai Pediatrics.

How did Huang Yuning go through the emptiness of his youth and experience God in his life? How can he step into the media and achieve his father's cherished goal of "sharing correct medical knowledge with the public"? What practical advice does he have that parents with children should pay attention to? Please look forward to the next issue of "Father and Son Doctor's Heart"!
