Another view on the "gun ban" issue

In response to Issue 54’s article on gun-carrying culture in the United States, it has long-term geographical and historical factors. Because I have lived in Texas for a long time, where the gun ownership rate is relatively high, and through the thinking of my friends, I have a different view on the "gun ban" issue.

In short: holding a gun is for self-protection before public power intervenes. The root cause of rampant violence lies in "people's hearts" rather than guns. Several major shooting cases in recent years have resulted in large numbers of casualties due to people's lack of ability to resist. For example: the Douglas High School shooting in Florida, the Sutherland Springs church shooting in Texas, and the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Among them, the Texas shooting was aborted by a larger-scale killing because neighbors responded with guns.

In my opinion, banning guns can only stop gentlemen; it cannot stop villains. Criminals never lack guns. Can banning guns really fulfill God’s justice? I put a question mark.

Accompanying my son through depression

上一期（55期）關係單元中母親陪伴兒子走過憂鬱症的見證─〈Accompanying the traveler in melancholic blues〉，於我心有戚戚焉。我與兒子目前也正走在人生低谷。非常同意文中那段話：「陪伴憂鬱症患者有一點很重要，就是認可他們說的話。無論他們說得多恐怖，不要緊張，就是聆聽和認可。陪伴者的功能就是讓他們盡情地把話講出來，等他們病好後，再回過頭來和他討論，當初為甚麼會這樣講？」

As a Christian, I also firmly believe that as long as we are willing to believe in the great love and power of Jesus Christ, we will eventually see the true light at the end of the dark tunnel.

open people's hearts

Issue 55 is an exclusive interview with drama scholar Luo Jing on "Playing the Drama of Life Well". The article mentioned that she taught Chinese language and literature at the university, and at the same time established and participated in a church in a low-income area. Most of the members are blue-collar workers, single mothers, and mentally ill. Theology and eloquence are of no use to them. In order to open their hearts, Luo Jing specially learned massage. While helping those with weak bodies, she could also communicate spiritually with them and share the gospel.

She has studied drama and novels for many years and knows how to observe human nature, which enables her to communicate with people cordially and gives me a good reminder. Use all kinds of clever and wise methods to open people's hearts and spread the gospel widely.

intimacy with god

55期蘇文安牧師文章〈Climb the ladder of glory with the Lord〉。講到主耶穌受難前夕的禱告，提示了如何隨主攀登三段式的榮耀天梯─積累對神的信靠感、培養對天父的親密感、建立對神旨意的榮耀感。

When talking about intimacy, Pastor Su mentioned that when his daughter was a child, she went to a gathering with adults and fell asleep during the meeting. After the meeting, she half-asleep held her parents' hands and went home. Once, a naughty uncle deliberately conducted an experiment and picked up her sleeping daughter after a meeting, thinking that she would follow him. Unexpectedly, she opened her eyes immediately, shook her little hand, and shouted "No". Because of her closeness to her parents, she knew that it was the hands of an outsider! This shocked me greatly and reminded me: Is there such intimacy between me and my Heavenly Father? Am I often tempted and led away by foreign objects in a daze, making me worse than a child?

Keep faith, hope and love in the burning forest

The 55th issue of the cultural unit. At first glance, I didn’t know what the author’s theme was when I first looked at this title. Until I read the full text, I was deeply moved. "'Coming out' was like a thunder flash across the sky, and the beautiful forest on the ground caught fire. The fire followed the wind and quickly scorched the entire home. My husband was surprised, angry, and heartbroken. He blamed everything, everyone, me, and myself. ,…….”

Homosexuality is a topic that many Christians do not want to touch and do not know how to deal with. I strongly agree with what the author’s mother said to her daughter in the article, “No matter who you love, I love you.” This is the voice of parents, and I believe it is also God’s will. I am also happy for this mother. Her child has not left God. She is still His lamb. She is in hope and not in the abyss!
