Urgent prayers and expanded signatures after deadline
Transformation starts with kneeling down and praying!
I urge all churches and saints to raise their holy hands, bow down before Almighty God, and cry out urgently for Taiwan’s education policy! Praying for God's gracious intervention, Taiwan's legislators were moved to bravely put aside political opposition and support the alliance's demands based on considerations of moral conscience and sustainable social survival. Secondly, pray for God to vigorously create an environment so that people from all walks of life in Taiwan can face the seriousness of the problem, actively join the petition, and support it to the end.
Just as this article was about to go to press, the Taiwan True Love Alliance issued a statement on the morning of July 22, 2011, announcing its withdrawal from the "Public Listening on the Implementation of Gender Equality Education and Teaching Reference Materials in Primary and Secondary Schools" organized by the Ministry of Education across the country. meeting". When a public hearing is held, public opinion is supposed to be listened to, but unexpectedly, representatives of the organizer preset a position that goes against the grain. Due to space limitations, this publication has excerpted and condensed the statement as follows:
1. The alliance originally called for signatures to oppose the obviously inappropriate and controversial aspects of the curriculum and teaching materials, and did not intend to cause any conflict between groups or individuals. However, during the public hearings in various places, misunderstandings and confrontations between different groups of people repeatedly occurred, but the organizers did not fully communicate or protect the basic rights of people to participate. The Alliance deeply regrets and solemnly declares that the Ministry of Education should bear full responsibility.
2. The organizer, on behalf of the Gender Equality Education Committee and the textbook editors, vigorously defended the content of the textbooks that were still highly controversial during the public hearing. From time to time, they made subjective judgments and distorted the demands of the alliance in spoken language, and failed to respond. The opportunity for discussion has lost fairness and balance. The entire process is like "declaration of political orders", which seriously deviates from the meaning and purpose of holding public hearings.
3. The Ministry of Education is requested to implement the three resolutions made at the "Legislative Yuan Education and Culture Committee Plenary Committee Meeting" on May 4, 2011:
1. Immediately review the major issues in the curriculum syllabus of primary and secondary schools - gender equality education competency indicators, curriculum syllabus, teaching material content and teacher training for gender equality education, etc., submit a project report to the Education and Culture Committee of the Legislative Yuan, and implement it only after approval .
2. Junior high school and primary school students are in the development stage from the "same-sex group friend stage" to the "same-sex close friend stage". They will reject the opposite sex to a certain extent and only like to associate with the same sex and form small groups. If multi-gender education is taught at this stage, it may cause children to be confused about "gender identity" and "friendship", and psychologically mistakenly believe that they are homosexual or bisexual. It is suggested that the Ministry of Education should re-examine the implementation stage and delay implementation until children have finalized their gender identity.
3. The Ministry of Education has published or will publish the textbooks "Knowing LGBT Education Manual", "This is How We Can Teach Gender" and "Teaching Gender Well", which contain highly controversial content. If they are published rashly, they may become an accomplice in confusing students' gender orientation. It is recommended that the Ministry of Education re-examine relevant publications and seek opinions from primary and secondary school teachers, religious groups, experts from all walks of life and parents who are actually engaged in front-line teaching work, with a view to completing a development plan for mature teaching materials. In order to protect the physical and mental health and education of the next generation, the Taiwan True Love Alliance's next response action will be from two aspects. The first is to actively lobby the Legislative Yuan in order to successfully reject the inappropriate curriculum and teaching materials proposed by the Ministry of Education. The second step is to expand the level of co-signing and call on all walks of life in Taiwanese society to pay attention to this issue. We urge everyone to pray to God urgently for this, and we will not stop praying until our demands are achieved!
