Like a deer admiring the stream

The life scenery of writer Lu Xi

Green grass, golden sunlight shining through the treetops, and meandering creeks reflecting the sparkling waves. A young deer walked leisurely out of the forest and drank from the stream. The woman was kneeling and praying by the stream, unaware that the deer was passing by.

The woman suddenly opened her eyes, a pair of bright big eyes, gentle and beautiful. Her husband once said that she was like the popular Japanese movie star Ruriko Asaoka in the 1960s; but rather than describing it this way, it would be better to say that this is a gift from God.

The stream flowed, day after day, year after year, from young to old, she was always like this, coming to God's stream day by day to draw from the fountain of life. She is Wen Zhaoyuan, whose pen name is Lu Xi. In addition to a young heart that time cannot take away, she also has a vibrant and beautiful testimony.

"The most meaningful job for us elderly people is to bless people." She emphasized, "Bless everyone we meet." People who have been moved by her article range from strong business women to young people; her book "Happiness" "Growing Old" has been read by Lian Jiaen, Shi Enuo, Huang Yuning... the list can go on. Is this touching power because her words are full of warmth? Perhaps, but more importantly, it is the sincerity that makes people envy Lu Xi. Every step of his life, no matter how bitter or sweet it is, he relies on the arms of his heavenly Father.

You are invited to enter the life scenery of writer Lu Xi.

Family portrait of two generations of benevolent doctors

When Lu Xi opened the family photo album, she seemed to see a list of "influencers". Dr. Huang Fuyuan, the former deputy director of the Department of Health, was her husband, and Dr. Huang Yuning, the host of "Love + Good Doctor", was her son. When asked how she felt about being the wife and mother of a famous doctor, she replied seriously that she should not pursue becoming a famous doctor, but become a benevolent and good doctor. The author couldn't help but write down this sentence, it is the best sentiment in itself!

I remember how many years ago, the relationship between doctors and the mass media was not as close as it is today. It was not common for doctors to write articles in newspapers or appear on TV. But Lu Xi had a different idea. No matter how busy Dr. Huang Fuyuan was, he was encouraged to write down the correct medical and health education concepts. He could even dictate them, and Ms. Lu Xi helped organize them. The result of the hard work was the very popular first article in the JoongAng Ilbo, "The First Level of Becoming a Dragon and a Phoenix," which talked about the knowledge of jaundice. Later, Dr. Huang Fuyuan published many articles one after another, which were compiled into books and shared on TV. Lu Xi said with a smile that his father, Dr. Huang Fuyuan, appeared on TV earlier than Huang Yuning!

Over the years, many people have benefited from Dr. Huang Fuyuan's articles and books. In recent years, Dr. Huang Xingning has been practicing in Shao Jiqiu. With the development of the Internet, Dr. Huang's blog and vivid TV programs have become familiar to the general public. For all these breakthroughs, it must be said that Lu Xi’s persistence was the starting point. She jokingly said that originally it was her ambition to write, but she realized it first with her husband and son.

But Huang Yuning’s blog management also turned around to help Lu Xi realize his dream. Around 2008, she suddenly said to her son: "It's over, it's over." Huang Yuning was shocked and asked quickly what happened? Lu Xicai explained that her brain power is getting worse and worse. She often thinks about writing an article, but she doesn’t know where to publish it, and she puts it down and is afraid of forgetting it. What should she do? Huang Yuning was quick in thinking and immediately volunteered to help her mother build a blog. Lu Xi could write one post after another and post them one by one. Gradually, readers on the Internet discovered that this new blogger Lu Xi made his debut and influenced many people. The articles in the blog were even collected into a book, and eight years later an expanded edition was published, which is the warm and sincere collection of essays "Happiness in Age", heartily recommended by authors such as Shi Yinuo and Liang Jiaen.

Prayer is the scenery of life

From a short story, you may be able to get a glimpse of the sincerity and touchingness of the book "Growing Old Happy" and the wonder of God. Let’s turn to a prayer written by Lu Xi, which she calls “A Book of Lamentations” to God.

"Lord! I leave my husband in your hands. You know that he cannot withstand the torture of long-term illness, so I pray to the loving God to heal him quickly and take away his physical and mental pain! If you insist on taking away his I have no choice but to surrender my life, but please make sure that his soul is saved quickly, that he truly believes in the Lord, and that he comes to you in peace. However, if he recovers and can be helpful and contribute to society, why don’t you heal him. Woolen cloth?"

The background of this prayer is that Dr. Huang Fuyuan suffered a serious illness for the first time. Lu Xi was only 26 years old at the time, one year after his marriage, and three years after he believed in the Lord. Because he had been ill for a long time, Dr. Huang lay weakly on the hospital bed and said that if he turned into uremia and needed kidney dialysis, he would give up! Why? Because there was no health insurance back then, one dialysis session was equivalent to the combined monthly salary of two people, which was absolutely unaffordable!

But when medical treatment was ineffective and the future was uncertain, the pastor visited the hospital one afternoon to pray, and Dr. Huang's fever suddenly subsided! The couple were overjoyed. Although Dr. Huang's mother followed folk beliefs, when she came to visit from the south and heard about the miracle of praying to reduce fever, she also agreed not to pray for Dr. Huang anymore. Unexpectedly, when Lu Xi sent her mother-in-law back, the fever that Dr. Huang had magically subsided a few days ago returned again!

If you continue reading, you will understand why longing and prayer are the most distinctive features of Ms. Lu Xi’s life, because when Dr. Huang said disappointedly: “I don’t think even God can heal me!” Lu Xi was keenly aware of this. I found that the fever was strange, so I decided to fast and pray!

"I'm going to pray until your fever goes away," she said at the time.

"What if the fever doesn't go away?" Dr. Huang's eyes turned red.

"Then we need to find out why."

Not long after, a thought came into Lu Xi’s mind, “Go and look through his shirt pockets!” Lu Xi didn’t know what was going on, but he obeyed the impulse after praying and took out Dr. Huang’s shirt to look at it. As a result, a red cloth charm obtained from the temple suddenly appeared in his pocket! She immediately understood that it was her mother-in-law who loved her son so much that she begged for a talisman and put it in her shirt pocket without telling them. She immediately explained to Dr. Huang that they had already prayed to the Lord Jesus and were healed, so they should no longer pray to other idols, which would instead bring harassment from evil spirits!

Dr. Huang is a filial son and feels very embarrassed about removing this talisman. But Lu Xi knew very well that although her mother-in-law had good intentions, if she put this talisman in her husband's place, the fever would not go away and the illness would not be cured. Finally, Dr. Huang finally agreed to discard it. By dusk, the fever had subsided and the disease that had taken advantage of it had disappeared without a trace!

Of course, there is an important postscript: Luxi’s mother-in-law lived to be a hundred years old and was baptized in her hospital bed before she passed away. thank God! Lu Xi's vivid writing style makes people feel like they have entered the real situation and vividly remember it. But this plot is not made up, but allows readers to see that life is like a drama, and God is the most critical director in the drama of our lives!

God did not promise that the sky would always be blue

Lu Xi experienced many wonderful miracles from God during prayer, but it did not mean that everything was smooth sailing. Her sister Li was diagnosed with gastric cancer when she was about thirty-nine years old and passed away at the age of forty-three. Presumably, it may have been caused by her husband's bankruptcy in those years, which caused the breakdown of her marriage and great pressure. Because the gastric cancer was in the fourth stage when it was discovered, the doctor believed that there was no need for treatment and could only be recuperated. According to statistics, with a condition like this, she would definitely pass away in half a year or two years. However, Li lived confidently for three years and eight months.

Li is a Christian and has testified to her faith with her life. She did not blame God at all when she was in such a harsh situation. Although Lu Xi and her friends took care of her physically, Li gave them greater spiritual support. Financial bankruptcy, marital breakdown, and suffering from illness, Li has experienced the biggest challenges a woman can encounter in just a few years. However, she has lived a peaceful life and has had many good influences on those around her who take care of her. Lu Xi couldn't help but say that although his sister was young, she had become his teacher in this regard.

But from a writer's perspective, it is not easy to write down this painful experience. Lu Xi was able to break through because she remembered her sister playing Chopin's "Farewell", which deeply moved her, and she began to write from there. If we use poetry to describe it, when Lu Xi thinks of his sister’s experience in life and the legacy she left to her relatives and friends after her death, she will think of the song "Refining Me and Become More Essence" written by spiritual predecessor Watchman Nee. With the trials, life will gain more benefits and make more progress.

Saying I love you urgently

Lu Xi, who is seventy-two years old this year, has always been in good health and does not have high blood pressure. Her husband, Dr. Huang Fuyuan, once speculated that she could live to be over a hundred years old. Although she has degenerative arthritis, which broke out at the age of fifty-seven, Lu Xi follows the health principles of New Starting Point to maintain her health, including balanced nutrition, daily exercise, and drinking plenty of water. Not only does she improve her physical condition, she even loses weight. I lost ten kilograms and maintained good health for many years.

But in 2010, when Lu Xi was 65 years old, she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. Why wasn't it discovered earlier? Because she had no lumps or abnormal secretions, and there were no abnormalities in her annual physical examination, one year she felt something was wrong and went to seek medical treatment, only to suddenly find out. The doctor said she had lobar breast cancer, which was not the ordinary tubular type and was difficult to detect on her own. By the time she was diagnosed, the tumor was already six centimeters in size.

As soon as he was discovered, he immediately underwent surgery, chemotherapy, electrotherapy, and targeted therapy. After a year or two, the mutual care of his family gave Lu Xi a lot of strength. For example, at that time, Huang Xingning and his wife had just become pregnant with their second child, and they still moved immediately to take care of their mother nearby.

Being sick is certainly not a good thing, but God’s Bible verse, “All things work together for good to those who love God,” has become a source of strength for her to turn difficulties into blessings. The treatment process went smoothly. She did not complain or get angry. She just felt very peaceful and calm. An important reason was that many people helped her pray. For example, the day before the operation, the pastor led ten people to pray for her. Lu Xi, who usually had a hard time sleeping, couldn't sleep in any other bed, but she slept well that night at the National Taiwan University Hospital.

She only felt scared before chemotherapy. She sent a text message asking everyone to pray for her that everything would go well. She sent it to 40 to 100 people. Sir, is it useful? She said of course it would work, and at least ten of the forty people would pray for her. As a result, my sleep was normal and the chemotherapy process went smoothly.

Deer Creek is now healed and in stable condition, as long as it is followed regularly. Looking back on this journey, one thing still impressed her: "Because the treatment for breast cancer required a mastectomy, the doctor asked me if I wanted breast reconstruction? I think I was already in my sixties, so I said no. The doctor was very kind. After confirming again and again, the husband couldn’t stand it and said: What’s the point of rebuilding? It’s enough that I love you!”

Lu Xi jokingly said, up to now, I wonder if Mr. still admits to saying this? The main point that others heard at that time was that there was no need for reconstruction, but what Lu Xi cared about the most was the phrase "I love you is enough!" For the introverted Dr. Huang Fuyuan, the last time Lu Xi heard him say something similar If so, it would probably be before marriage!

Longing for God, loving a family

On Dr. Huang Fuyuan's seventy-fifth birthday, under the arrangement of his son, Dr. Huang Shuning, the family took a group photo to commemorate the occasion, leaving behind a precious and warm family scene. One of Lu Xi's three children, a son and a daughter, are already married, and they have third-generation children and grandchildren, which makes her feel happy and contented.

Lu Xi managed her marriage for such a long time. When I asked her about her secret, her answer was humble and grateful. I remember that on their forty-fifth wedding anniversary, she asked her partner how he felt. Dr. Huang Fuyuan responded that it was amazing that she could get along with a person like him for forty-five years. It turns out that Dr. Huang has a very impatient personality and wants everything done immediately; Lu Xi is a relatively slow-paced person, and it is really difficult to cooperate. Lu Xi laments that the divorce rate is high nowadays, but he can also understand the challenges in marriage. The most important thing to be able to persevere is to be sincere in running a marriage, have a sense of responsibility, and then rely on God's grace.

From his previous job of teaching to taking care of his children and family, Lu Xi realized his dream relatively late. But she longed for God, prayed and waited for God’s timing. For example, she once started learning and hosting the radio program "Open the Doors and Windows of the Heart" without any experience, and heard God's guidance through prayer. In his later years, he embarked on a writing path beyond imagination. Looking back on the journey we have taken, we are full of grace.

Being happy until old age is not without worries, but like a green tree planted by a stream. Even if there are winds and rains, you can rely on the Lord to get through it. The only secret of Deer Creek is to drink from the fountain of living water of the Lord Jesus!
