never complain

▲Despite the misfortune and being paralyzed from the neck down, the optimistic Christa still persevered and gave birth to a daughter and a son naturally.

Three years ago, when I entered Luo Bin. When I was in Davids's lab, Krista was a doctoral student in our lab. Why does Christa use a wheelchair? Why does she always have a smile on her face? These are all questions in my mind.

Whenever I see her struggling to open the door of the storage cabinet, or whenever I see her using her hands that can't straighten her fingers to operate the injector, the mystery in my heart becomes even greater. However, when I rushed forward to help her, she always said, "Thank you! I can do it."

Gradually, I became friends with Christa and found out that she was an excellent water skier in college and won the championship in a certain college sports competition. Unfortunately, when she was twenty years old, she was paralyzed from the neck down due to an accident while playing sports. From then on, she had no chance to run or jump or wear gorgeous clothes.

Fate seems very unfair to her, however, she is always full of confidence in life. Half a year after her recovery, she returned to school to continue her studies. A young and handsome teacher met her, admired her, and became her husband. She overcame many difficulties and entered the Department of Life Sciences at the State University of New Jersey in the United States. In five years, she obtained a doctorate. During this period, with tenacious perseverance, she became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter and a son naturally.

She often has a happy smile on her face, describing how her three-year-old daughter helps her carry this and that like an angel. Although her blood pressure dropped several times when she was pregnant with her son, which forced her to lie down on her desk. However, when she recovered, she said as if nothing had happened that she would set her son's birth date on the 13th. Because she was the No. 13 athlete back then. I was surprised and thought, doesn’t she think thirteen is an unfortunate number? Doesn't she still think that she is an unfortunate person?

Once, I asked her quietly, why do you feel so calm even though you have so many inconveniences in life? Don't you complain that life is unfair to you? She said, "No. I never complain. I come here and enjoy my job; when I come home, I enjoy the love of my family. What can I complain about?"

I finally understood that "I never complain" is the source of the smile on Christa's face. If she thinks that surviving a disaster is lucky, and if she regards every day and every period of time as enjoying life, what can she complain about?

Compared with Christa's optimistic attitude, those of us who are able-bodied are often dissatisfied with this and that. We will complain about the discomfort or inconvenience caused to us by the weather that is too hot or too cold; we will complain that the noisy children are annoying; we will complain that there are endless housework; we will complain that the work is too stressful and tiring, but the reward is not enough. Too little... If our emotions are always dominated by daily trivial matters, how can we enjoy our "possession" and enjoy our life? "I never complain" - this is Christa's belief in life, and it is also the most precious gift she has given me over the years of working with me. Nowadays, whenever I encounter any difficulties or anything goes wrong, I will think of her. Compared with her, I will feel that I am the lucky one among the lucky ones, and my heart will be filled with gratitude. This positive attitude towards life has been deeply rooted in my heart and will benefit me throughout my life.
