Tchaikov "Driver"
Accidentally, I became a Samaritan; when I help others, I am filled with joy and comfort.
The first snow before Christmas that winter came fiercely. When school is over, the ground is covered with snow. There is no poetic elegance, nor the leisurely feeling of walking in the snow. The urban area is gray, and the snowy roads walked by everyone are as gray as mud. As a teenager, I carefully avoid the vehicles passing by and splashing. The gray and black snow was muddy, and I walked with my head down.
There was a wrinkled old woman sitting on a bench covered with thick snow, wrapped in winter clothes, breathing rapidly, and a paper bag slanted beside her feet. The bench was right next to the subway and bus station. Passersby passed by in a hurry, and no one paid attention to the old woman's weak breathing.

Determined to be a good person
This scene reminded me of my grandmother at home. At the age of sixty-eight, she moved to North America with us and was responsible for the kitchen at home. She often took my siblings and me on weekend grocery shopping. With her short and fat body, she was carrying vegetables, fruits and vegetables in one hand, and holding her younger sister in the other hand as she walked slowly forward. I was holding bags full of juice and milk and followed beside her. My younger brother, who was carrying a rice bag, came behind and performed the old hen show every week. The plot of the chicken shopping for groceries.
"This wheezing old woman, if she were my grandmother, what would I do?" A thought emerged from the bottom of my heart.
Walking towards her, I picked up the paper bag and said in the most primitive English: "You go, I bring!" She stood up slowly in surprise and walked ahead in disbelief to lead the way.
I followed the old woman to her apartment and saw her staggering up to the third floor. I was really glad that my apartment had an elevator. She tremblingly picked up the key and opened the door, while I placed the paper bag on the table. I was about to turn around and leave when I was pulled by the old woman. She rummaged through her purse and took out a few bills and handed them to me. I quickly pushed away the hand holding the banknotes and said, "No! No need." Just as I was about to leave, the old woman's flat hands pushed my face forward, and the burnt lips with faded lipstick were placed on my face. I kissed her lips and said, "My dear child, God bless you." The sudden enthusiasm overwhelmed me and I rushed out of the door.
The old woman's apartment was only a few blocks away from where I lived. Stepping on the wet gray snow, I immediately remembered the Bible story of the "Good Samaritan" from the church's Sunday school teacher. I, unknowingly, also became a Good Samaritan; When you help others, you are filled with joy and comfort. From then on, I determined to be a good Samaritan.
The Adventures of a Good Samaritan
At one time, there was a subway strike in New York City, and I had to walk forty minutes to school every day. One day, a car stopped beside me, and a man with a mustache inside inquired: "Which direction is the highway going to?" I have a good sense of direction, but my English is not good and I can't tell the direction clearly. "Girl, are you on your way? I'll give you a ride and help me with directions." Okay! Isn’t it also said that a good person should go the extra mile to accompany others?
After getting in the car and closing the door, I suddenly felt the strange smile on the corner of the bearded man's mouth. Before I could give him directions, I saw him driving toward the highway in a familiar manner, and I understood that he was boarding a pirate ship. His face sank, and his previous cleverness was replaced by a look of fear. The bearded man pretended not to understand everything he said, staring out the window and kept saying "No!" After a long time, the car stopped, "Get out of the car! I see you still can't understand it." Too small!"
Frightened and not knowing where he was, he stood in a daze until he heard the sound of a horn on the roadside. Upon closer inspection, I saw that this bearded man actually drove me home by accident.
Neighbor love warms my heart
My friend Huiqun heard about this dangerous situation on the phone and immediately came to see me. She knelt beside my bed and prayed with me to thank God. She prayed in Cantonese, which I "didn't understand", and I prayed in Mandarin, which she "didn't understand". Two 16-year-old girls, because of the same faith, thanked Heavenly Father for their protection.
Cong Huiqun listened carefully to my detailed "adventures" and felt sincere care. When I needed comfort, she gave me immediate care. She never criticized or corrected me, only listened patiently. From her, I experienced the love of my neighbor, how warm it is! How touching!
But because of this experience, I also began to learn to be prepared at all times and live a life of sweeping away the snow in front of my door.
Happy driver breaks down the wall
The high wall built in my heart due to defensiveness was gradually dismantled until I cooperated with others many times in college. Fortunately, I became a car owner when I was in college. Seeing classmates on the road, walking with difficulty to the bus stop in the cold wind, especially on rainy and snowy days, always reminds me of the old woman's gasp. Sometimes, he would turn around and ask the anxiously waiting girl to get in the car and give her a ride.
After a few times, the word spread among the female classmates in the dormitory that I was a caring driver with many calls for help. Drunk roommates, schoolgirls seeking medical treatment, and even taking someone's girlfriend secretly to the obstetrics and gynecology department and keeping it a secret...
Many years later, I still often play the role of driver when I am driving my son and daughter to and from school, especially on windy and rainy days, when I see the backs of their classmates walking alone. While working as a driver, I often use Huiqun's attitude of not lecturing but just listening to communicate with my passengers.
Now as a Sunday school teacher, I often tell the story of the "Good Samaritan" to the children. Finally, I say: "The Lord Jesus likes to see us love our neighbors. Our neighbors are not just the neighbors next door, but also the people living around us." "Of course, I also reminded them not to talk to strangers casually, to pay attention to safety, and to stay alert.
The children would ask: "Auntie, how can you be a good Samaritan?" At this time, I would pretend to be a good person and say: "Most of the time, I do my job as a mother; when God gives me the opportunity, I will be a happy person." "Kov driver" (a homonym for the 19th-century Russian musician Tchaikovsky)..."
